Follow-up:

Bruce Kersner writes this about Bear Swamp:

"A trackless wilderness requiring a compass to navigate. The GPS device couldn't receive signals under the dense vegetation.

Bear Swamp promises to be one of the oldest forests in the Northeast. It is populated by humongous black gums (tupelo), which are known to reach 700 years old in New England."

The above information gathered from Bruce Kersner's Bear Swamp web page

Sounds like the perfect place for an unknown primate to keep out of site of humans.
