Sighting Details:
Geocher see Bigfoot during a hike in the wooded area between Rt. 23 and Rt. 517 (in Ogdensburg).

A report found at geocaching.com tells the tale:

"Let me start off by saying, I've always been a skeptic. I don't really believe in mystical or magical stuff. I think UFO's, out of body experiences, and stuff like that is a bunch of crapolie. Well, I changed my opinion, well, at least of one thing.

After looking around the area for fifteen minutes, I heard a thumping noise. It wasn't consistent, but would come and go every once in a while. Then, I noticed a rather strange smell -- sorta rotten? I guess that would be the way to say it. I immediately dismissed both of them, until, no more than 5 minutes later, I heard a howling sound. Looking around, I finally saw what was making the noise.

Never in my life would I have imagined that I would come face to face with what might be a creature I always thought wasn't real. There, standing 6/7 feet tall was what looking like an artist's conceptualization (spelling?) of Bigfoot. Bigfoot. I believe, I believe, I saw a bigfoot at this cache site -- I don't know how long it was there, what it wanted me to do as far as staying/leaving, or if it was any danger to me. But it was unmistakable -- from the hear to the face of a human; it looked just like a cross between a human and a gorilla.

I treated it as if it was a bear -- I walked away. It never moved from its place, it stood there. And I walked away.

I never woulda thunkit, and I'm still a little bit of a skeptic, but I can't deny what my eyes saw this afternoon. I slowly went on to the next cache, crossing and praying it didn't follow me; it never did.

Well, thanks for the cache, I came away with a lot more than a smilie, believe me or not.

Follow-up by Drew Vics

The caching area is densely wooded. A large tract of land extending between route 23 and 517 in Ogdensburg, NJ. There is a small mountain which divides the two areas. I grew up in this area and spent significant time exploring these woods during my teen years.

I guess if there could be a BF anywhere in northern NJ, this would be a good spot. Not to mention that there are only a few county roads to cross over heading east, beyond which lies more woods and a huge reservoir. Woods to the south head into the Jefferson Township area. To the west, crossing 517 leads to more woods with only small county roads, finally broken by route 94. Anyone familiar with this area knows that during the night a creature could cross roads with little chance of being seen.

Intriguing to say the least. That is, if it's not a tall tale.
